Imperial Payments

Global B2B contractor payroll, invoicing & batch payment orchestration

Built in 2024 · iOS & Android in 2025 · public launch in 2026

🏆 Selected for Bubble Global — #10 in Honduras →

Imperial Payments resolves a critical friction point in global workforce management: the manual, error-prone, non-transparent execution of international contractor payroll. Moving away from decentralized spreadsheets and email, it built a unified digital ecosystem where enterprise admins stage payrolls and contractors securely review hours, approve digital payslips, and trigger compliant invoicing. First built in 2024, expanded in 2025 with native iOS and Android apps, and officially launched to the public in 2026 with a dedicated landing page. It was selected by Bubble.io for its Bubble Global showcase.

The Problem

  • ▸Asymmetrical visibility — contractors couldn't see preliminary hours or gross-to-net pay, causing post-payment invoice disputes.
  • ▸Manual invoice matching — scaling a remote team meant generating and reconciling each international invoice by hand.
  • ▸Data payload invalidation — pushing records into rigid external formats (e.g. OnTop's template) caused silent downstream breaks from malformed JSON.

The Solution & Architecture

A stack architected to balance agile delivery with enterprise-grade scaling:

  • ▸Bubble.io — admin control center + contractor portal; relational model over Users, Contractors, Payroll Records and OnTop Batches.
  • ▸Make.com — high-availability enterprise service bus: intercepts webhooks, rate-limits, parses and securely transforms payloads.
  • ▸Google Drive & Sheets — template management, immutable programmatic rows, compliant CSV outputs.
  • ▸Secure async callback webhooks from Make.com back to Bubble to update batch state.

Engineering highlight — a zero-fault payment pipeline

The core milestone was a zero-fault integration that feeds standardized CSV batches straight to payment networks. Translating dynamic database lists into spec-compliant JSON arrays required surgical payload engineering:

  • ▸JSON-safe serialization with native sanitization (no manual quoting), strict numeric type safety with null-proof defaults, and a minified blueprint to block stray smart-quotes/whitespace.
  • ▸Delimiter delegation so the final array element always closes without a trailing comma (ECMA-404 compliant).
  • ▸A race-condition-proof Database Trigger fires the batch only when approved records equal the expected count — then Make.com iterates, an Array Aggregator pools execution exactly once per batch, and a secure callback marks the batch processed with an audit URL.
